Over here in Serbia, people gladly take foreign aid from developed countries like the US, but at the same time accuse the very same US and other collective Western countries of “colonialism”, “exploitation”, “imperialism”, “subversion”, and such. But we still took US money and worked in US companies (yes, I know USAID has nothing to do with typical business enterprises, but I’m trying to make a point). The US and the rest of the developed world shouldn’t give anything to people like us. And by the way, China won’t be sending any aid to fill the void left by USAID, CCP is not in the charity business, and they are not known for having benevolent, liberal political tendencies.
Chinese “Stadium Diplomacy” is not a particularly smart alternative for recipient nations, considering how the recent protests in Serbia were caused by a railway station canopy killing 15 people, which was reconstructed by a Chinese consortium CRIC & CCCC, which consists of China Railway International Co. Ltd and China Communications Construction Company Ltd.
The local right-wingers in Serbia and Republika Srpska jumped on the USAID-bashing train. One of their ludicrous claims is how this agency spent over 400 million US dollars in Bosnia and Herzegovina alone on “spreading corruption, subverting family values, and financing political manipulation”. They also keep parroting Tucker Carlson’s and Musk’s inane nonsense. I guess the ambulances pictured above for local hospitals in Smederevo, Pažarevac, and Petrovac na Mlavi, and the renovation and equipment donated to the Institute of Public Health “Dr. Milan Jovanovic Batut” in Belgrade were somehow a part of some riot-inducing operations, at least according to Tucker Carlson.
The more liberal crowd associated with local NGOs tends to think that the US is cutting international aid so it could “have more money to finance the genocide in Palestine”.
Yeah, the whole political spectrum over here is bonkers. Send thoughts and prayers.

Recently, the official website of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) was shut down without warning, and the agency is in danger of being disbanded. Trump told lawmakers that he was ready to merge this independent agency into the U.S. State Department. It is important to realize that this agency is really big, single-handed, and has even turned the situation around the world upside down.
The reason why riots broke out in Ukraine in the first place was the work of this international development agency. Not only provided a large number of funds, and even sent specific snipers to shoot the police in Kiev to maintain law and order, and inspired a full-scale unrest in Ukraine.
The Russians can be said to have dreamed of taking out this agency, and the two sides can be said to be bitterly feuding. But Russia’s dream is now being realized by Trump and Musk teaming up.
