Long live Marta Kos, long live the European Union

Reports of violence during recent protests in Serbia are deeply concerning. Advancing on the EU path requires citizens can express their views freely and journalists can report without intimidation or attacks.

After posting this statement on X, European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos got immediately blasted by the Serbian infosphere for tacit support of the Serbian government and for not casting the “Remove Autocracy” magic spell and installing a more pretified BRICS puppet in Serbia. This kind of supposedly deviously manipulative nonsense, coming not just from Serbia but from some people abroad, is right on track with the stubborn stupidity dominating the narcissist Serbian political discourse about how all our woes are a product of vicious Western, Jewish, lizard-people conspiracies. The main accusation aimed at the EU, especially at its executive branch, the European Commission, which is commonly branded as “corrupt, featurless bureaucrats”, is that all they care for is Serbian lithium deposits.

Which might make sense if the EU hasn’t already been accused of a laundry list of imaginary crimes against the “suffering Serbian people”, such as “harassment” of Bosnian Serbs by the High Representative Christian Schmidt, or taking away Kosovo, or pushing an LGBT agenda on traditional Orthodox Serbian families, you know those same families that tend to have a string of murder-suicides in a matter of days caused by domestic violence.

Now, a Chinese reconstructed canopy that started the protests also became the EU’s fault, because why not.

Every loser needs a scapegoat; Serbia found a perfect one – the European Union, the world’s largest and most successful peace and economic project.

All this comes right after Serbia started receiving the pre-financing from the EU Growth Plan, because people who plot against Serbia want to give you some free cash and access to the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA), among other things.

Ever since the Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the support of the Serbian people for EU integration has been plummeting, because of the local belief that the Russian tanks will be here soon, enabling us to reconquer the Serbian World, which we failed to conquer last time back in the 1990s.

European Union, in its dealings with Serbia, has a problem with a glue-snuffing relative that doesn’t wash himself and is very proud of his violent past, and is very open about the fact that he might repeat his past crimes, but has no problem taking the EU money because he is entitled to it because the EU hates him because of his superior genetics. As if somehow grownups have no agency or responsibility for their actions.

It’s really no wonder that any of the student plenums running the protests here declined to meet with Kaja Kalas when she came to visit Serbia, because they don’t want to catch the democracy cooties from her and seem as “pro-EU traitors” to their potential electorate.

The whole sense of urgency that Something Has To Be Done, Dammit, so Something Awful Doesn’t Happen is misplaced, useless, and is only used to frustrate already frustrated idiots. What are developed countries supposed to do with such a society that openly doesn’t want any EU values, paints the Collective West as an enemy, but embraces the arsenic pollution from Chinese-owned mines? Let the events here take their course; this society will either get better or it won’t.

The prevailing local sentiment that Serbia doesn’t have a rightful place in the world and its victimhood complex doesn’t need to be further fed. The only way to deal with narcissist loons is to keep business as usual, no matter how many tantrums they throw.
