The leader of the Serbian opposition Freedom and Justice Party, Dragan Djilas, said in Skopje at a gathering of social democratic parties from the region and European social democrats that the Western Balkans needs “a clear message from Europe that they are counting on us,” proposing that elections for the European Parliament be organized in all EU candidate countries that have opened negotiations with the Union, N1 reports.
“This way, they could influence decisions and make it possible for the voice of those of us who fight for European values and the European future of our countries, but also of the entire region, to be heard,” Djilas explained.
There’s a Serbian joke about how, when the Balkan countries all finally join the European Union, the MEPs, European Commission members, bureaucrats, and other new employees of the agencies hailing from the Balkans will hire all of their relatives, “best men”, and “godfathers” to fill every available position in the organization’s apparatus and proceed to rob the place blind like a Biblical plague, which in turn will cause the rest of the EU members to leave the Union and impose an all-out embargo on the “new EU” consisting solely of the Balkan countries.

The sanctimonious attitudes of the non-EU countries in Europe that genuinely feel that they are morally superior to the “decadent West” should be taken seriously. Their complaints about the impossible-to-reach EU accession standards should be ignored. Their accusations of neo-colonialism thrust upon them by the developed nations should be met with fewer handouts. Because if these places are so awesome, why are they wallowing in crime, violence, and destitution?
Attention European Union: You should never, like your lives depend on it, because they do, allow EU candidate countries to have any influence on your politics, because they will do their darndest to drag you down to their level of corruption and lawlessness, all the while asking for European financial aid.
There’s always an alternative, of course. The intrepid freedom fighters from former Yugoslavia can join BRICS.
An international parliamentary conference titled BRICS – Serbia Among Friends was held in the Serbian parliament on Monday, the 29th of September.
Hosted by Movement of Socialists MPs, the conference was attended by ambassadors and diplomats from the Russian Federation, China, Belarus, Venezuela, the UAE, Iran, Cuba, Palestine, Algeria, Mexico, Kazakhstan, Brazil, and Myanmar.
In a speech before a packed audience, Movement of Socialists leader Aleksandar Vulin noted that the large number of people in attendance reflected their civic courage as they disagreed with exclusive membership in the EU.
“You have to be brave to say you do not want to join the EU. That is democracy – the right to choose,” Vulin said, adding that courage was demonstrated by advocating one’s own beliefs.
He noted that the main goal of the event was to inform Serbia of the possibilities that were ahead of it, and asked who had decided that the majority in Serbia was pro-EU.
“A desire to be a part of the European world is our great treasure, but in the life of every state, you are governed by interests. The Serbian national interest is a sovereign Serbia – a Serbia that makes its decisions independently – a Kosovo-Metohija within state borders, not turning our back on traditional friendships, a Serbian world and military neutrality,” Vulin said.
“Every step closer to the EU means moving away from Serbia, our sovereignty and our friends,” he noted.
His sentiments are shared by the majority of the Serbian electorate, and that didn’t escape the attention of foreign visitors.

When I talk to my childhood friends and Kosovo comes up, they tell me that they are ready to go to war over Kosovo, along with their already grown sons, if some imaginary “city folk that didn’t serve the army” also joins them. They don’t mean Vulin to join them, who also didn’t serve the mandatory military service. You see, most important people and their sons never do.
These are genuinely decent people, mind you. But Thanatos is stronger than Eros here. There are other aspirations than normal life, and the notion that their destinies are unimportant and that they are born to suffer. No wonder people keep leaving this suicide squad of a country in droves.
According to the Special Eurobarometer survey of September 2025, this is Serbia’s trust towards the EU, countries, and international institutions:
◾ Russian Federation 59%
◾ China 57%
◾ European Union 38%
Perception of support from international donors:
◾ China 39%
◾ Russian Federation 30%
◾ European Union 29%
The Collective West shouldn’t waste much effort and resources in courting nations that don’t align with its values and interests.
