Volodymyr Zelenskyy to visit Serbia on Saturday

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will pay an official visit to Serbia on Saturday, August 8th, the presidential press service said on Thursday.

A recent poll in Serbia asked, “Who is responsible for the war in Ukraine?” The respondents answered:
▪️ NATO 31.1%
▪️ US 28.2%
▪️ Ukraine 16.1%
▪️ Russia 8%
▪️ EU 5.3%

Welcome to the house of the dying lies, Mr. President. Make sure you got your hepatitis B shot, and enjoy your stay in the most polluted country in Europe.

His visit comes in the wake of Ukrainian parliament speaker Stefanchuk, hosted by his Serbian counterpart Ana Brnabić. Stefanchuk’s visit was one of those things that gets the Kremlin into an impotent brain-melt over its allies breaking the pro-Russian script.

Vučić visited Kyiv recently, but don’t think that actually signals any actual U-turn in Serbian foreign policy. See, the electorate here likes our Supreme Commander’s “defiant” photo ops on “enemy” territory where we can embarrass ourselves by NOT laying wreaths and hoboring fallen Ukrainians.

Speaking about his Ukrainian counterpart’s first official visit, Vučić said that he respects the fact that Ukraine has not recognised Kosovo and that it hosted 2 Southeast Europe–Ukraine summits without inviting representatives of Pristina.

Don’t worry about Zelenskyy’s safety, either. While Serbia is full of pro-Russian fanatics who think that Russia will help establish the Serbian World, high-profile visits from democratic leaders always go even without symbolic pro-Russian protests, let alone genuine security threats – it’s one of the perks of living in an authoritarian country.

The immediate benefit from Zelenskyy’s visit to Serbia is that it will have my pro-Russian compatriots’ tiny brains explode over it. Maybe the Kremlin will also take great offense, and Putin will never visit Serbia again, which would be sooo motherfuckin’ tragic.

Welcome, Mr. President. Long live Ukraine.
